Summer 2024 brings a wonderful result for our Summer Sailing School: eleven consecutive weeks of lessons, on board our Optimist and Laser 16, for over one hundred and twenty enthusiastic children between 6 and 16 years old, coming from all over the world – from Northern Italy to New York, from Prague to Sydney, from Chiang Mai to Seoul.
“Our lessons, starting from sharing the love for the sea, aimed to raise awareness of the basics of sailing, convey respect for the environment, develop team spirit and individual awareness – says Alessio Baccini, coordinator of the summer courses – everything always in the name of fun, because it is holiday time anyway, and therefore also games and swimming to keep our future sailors entertained”.
“It was a wonderful opportunity for meeting, learning and friendship – a parent tells us – “we chose to enroll both our children, so that they could spend time together, sharing what they were learning, and having fun” – a common choice for many families, counting the nineteen couples/trios of brothers and sisters registered.
Most of the students were so enthusiastic about the first week of the course that they continued in the following weeks, recording some real records such as Anastasia and Giulia from Sanremo who attended every week, and Giorgio from Milan who after 35 days on board the Laser 16 didn’t want to come down anymore!
The assiduity of many students has allowed us to activate a specialization course tailor-made for them. And, in addition to the classic lessons on land preparatory to the first trips out to sea, we have organized a series of practical workshops on seafaring and knot art, marine biology lessons with professor Manuela Galli, and creative painting workshops with master Andrea Selvaggio who they have given our sea many small colorful sails.
Some of the summer students – Alessandro, Filippo, Anastasia, Giulia, Livia, Virginia, Anita, Andrei – have decided to continue with training aimed at competitive activity, which will begin at the end of September.
“Our yacht club has a tradition of sailing school for the little ones for over seventy years, with the aim of making them fall in love with the sea and learn to experience it in a safe, clean and fun way – comments our Sports Director Andrea Vacchino – I thank the instructors Alessio, Samuele, Luisa, Giulia and all the staff, who welcomed the young students and their families this summer with passion and commitment”.
