We say goodbye to 2024 which for our 420s has certainly been the year of the female crews because they have achieved good positions starting from the Carnival Race in February, with Cecilia Denoe and Martina Gallo, Ludovica Fortin Nan and Francesca Lanteri, Ludovica Bonelli and Emma Cenderello.
It was a season of great commitment, training and competitions, our athletes worked hard with coaches Fernanda Sesto, YC Competitive Manager, Tommy Cilli, Andrea Abbruzzese, Fabio Boldrini and Giorgio Finke – especially the men’s crews in which some beginners have integrated such as Elia Federico, already a leading athlete of our Optimist team, and Giulio Berra, from Turin, who made his debut as a bowman at the Italian Championship in September.
“In the spring we took part in the three legs of the Coppa Italia: the I with a long, demanding, and fun trip to Crotone for 7 crews who gave their all in unstable wind conditions, for the youngest it was their first regatta. The II on Garda, with a beautiful third place for Ludovica and Emma, Under 17 women, after having faced four days of regattas on a very technical course, together with the other 6 crews of our club. The last stage and national selections of the Trofeo Uniqua took place in Ancona, with good placings, especially by the women’s teams.
In July, Cecilia and Martina, who had been crewing together for only a year, took part in their first international regatta, the 420 Junior European Championship Thessaloniki: a 15th place in the Women’s category, after many trials in all possible wind conditions, a lot of heat and many hours at sea.
At the end of the summer, the Ligurian 420 Championship saw Ludovico Rossano and Federico Trucchi take a nice second place, and Ludovica and Francesca take first place Female Category. In September, we returned from the Italian Championship in Pescara with Cecilia and Martina taking a nice first place, consolidating all the work done this year.
After the Coppa Poggi, which was very challenging due to the weather conditions, we participated in Civitavecchia at the Italian Women’s Championship & November Race, conquering the second step of the podium with Dima and Elia out of 51 crews present. It was a positive trip to finish the 2024 season and start thinking big about the 2025 season!
