European youth sailing fights at 420&470 The Carnival Race 2026

Almost 140 boats and 280 athletes from 13 countries competed over four demanding days in the Gulf of Aregai, in a hard-fought and spectacular edition that once again confirms this international event as a key appointment for European youth sailing.

An all-foreign podium in the 470 class, with victory going to the Croatian sailors Ema Samaržija and Leon Scheidl of YC Adriaco, while Italian crews dominated the 420 classes: Clarissa Panicucci and Davide Simoni (CV Antignano) won the Mixed category, Benedetta Catania and Ludovica Pastorino (CV Vernazzolesi) won the Women’s category, and Nicolas Margaria and Edoardo Cavero (CV Vernazzolesi) won the Open Gold.

In the Under 17 category, the winners were the Greek sailors from the Nautical Club of Kalamaki, with Andreas Psomiadis and Filippos Portosalte winning the Open division and Maria Anna Makri and Veselina Troshku winning the Women’s division.

The four days featured highly variable weather conditions. Only one race was held on Thursday, while Friday was very demanding, with progressively worsening conditions and gusts of up to 40 knots. Two races were completed for the 470 class and the yellow 420 fleet, and one for the red fleet. Saturday also brought difficult weather, with no races held, but great participation in the prize draw at Veleria Zaoli.

Sunday concluded the event on a high note, with ideal conditions allowing seven races to be completed in one day, with one discard for both the 420 and 470 fleets.

The event ended with the prize-giving ceremony at Marina degli Aregai – D-Marin, which we thank for its great hospitality and for providing high-level services and facilities for all crews.
