200 Days/200 Nights Around the World is the story of our member Alessandro Tosetti ‘s solo adventure aboard ASPRA , beginning with the Global Solo Challenge and concluding with the final leg from Auckland to Sanremo.

Alessandro Tosetti
A native of Vercelli, a Turin-based architect, and avid sailor, he is an honorary member of our club. Alessandro sails aboard Aspra, a ULDB he built in 2002 using the molds of the Nastro Azzurro hull by the Vallicelli studio.
A sailor who combines his passion for sailing with his multifaceted work as an architect in the cultural, residential, tertiary, and urban planning sectors, he specializes in the design and patenting of natural luminescence applications for the civil and nautical sectors, with numerous international projects designed to create a highly emotional design and enhance the safety of dark spaces.
With his studio, aat, he is working to develop a protocol for equipping the sailing boats of ocean-going skippers participating in the Global Solo Challenge 2027 with luminescent installations, in accordance with navigation safety guidelines.
Alessandro has over 100,000 miles of sailing under his belt, starting at a young age, from dinghies to offshore boats.
As a young man, he was a professional skipper and sailing instructor, holding various professional qualifications, numerous ocean crossings, and participation in numerous regattas, including the Rolex Giraglia, Rolex Fastnet, and Middle Sea Race.
In 1992, he won the Over 100 World Championship in San Diego, crewed by a Royal Eagle II.
After the launch of ASPRA in 2002, he completed several Atlantic crossings.
In 2019, he set a benchmark time for a solo 78-hour tour of Corsica, from Imperia to Imperia.
In 2022, as an ambassador for the Sail Green sustainability project promoted by the City of Imperia, he created the eponymous artistic performance, using a route tracker to draw a 100km route on the sea between Italy and France.
In 2022, he qualified for the Global Solo Challenge (a solo, non-stop, unassisted round-the-world race), sailing from Imperia to Cascais in 10 days.
In 2024, he was on the starting line of the first edition of the Global Solo Challenge, which was interrupted in New Zealand due to a broken shroud.
In 2025, he set sail from Auckland for the second leg, completing the race as an ambassador for the twinning between Italy and New Zealand—between the Yacht Club Sanremo and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in Auckland, holder of the America’s Cup.
Upon entering the Pacific, he created the performance “DRAWING A BUTTERFLY,” a second drawing on the sea with the route tracker: the shape of a butterfly, a tribute to the Red Admiral, symbol of New Zealand.
In April 2025, he arrived in Sanremo flying the RNZYS pennant, completing the solo round-the-world race.
Alessandro enters the register of the prestigious International Association of Cape Horners, among the first ten Italian navigators to have rounded Cape Horn in a solo, unassisted circumnavigation.
