The evening of March 20th organized by our Club, together with the Famija Sanremasca, with the participation of member, architect and navigator Alessandro Tosetti, was a great success .
“200 days/200 nights with ASPRA around the world” is the story of his solo adventure, which began with the Global Solo Challenge and ended with the final leg from Auckland to Sanremo, aboard ASPRA , the ULDB 65′ he built in 2002.
With over 100,000 miles of sailing behind him, in 2025 Alessandro successfully completed the circumnavigation of the globe by sail , entering the register of the prestigious “International Association of Cape Horners” among the first ten Italian navigators to have rounded Cape Horn during a solo circumnavigation.
Alessandro shared his personal and sporting journey, not without challenges, through the three great capes—Cape of Good Hope, Cape Lewin, and Cape Horn—stormy oceans and cold Antarctic seas, undaunted and able to fulfill a great dream. On the final leg, he sailed under the pennant of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron of Auckland (the holder of the America’s Cup), acting as an ambassador for the twinning with our club.
There were many questions about preparing a vessel for such a challenging project—onboard electronics, the galley, sleep-wake rhythms, managing unexpected events, and onboard safety. In this context, Alessandro presented a series of luminescent steplight installations aboard his vessel, which contributed to his voyage both in terms of safety in dark spaces and emotional support.
Our President Beppe Zaoli thanked Alessandro, inviting him to share his valuable experience with the club’s sailing school.
We thank Alessandro and all the participants at the evening, moderated by science communicator and former Consul of the Sea Gianni Manuguerra, and curated by Raffaella Ramondetti; our President Zaoli, Commodore Umberto Zocca di Montelupo, and Secretary Andrea Veneziano, as well as many members, enthusiasts, and friends; many members of the Famija Sanremasca in attendance, including the two Councilors Manuguerra and Veneziano, Honorary President Gustavo Ottolenghi, several Consuls of the Sea, Gina Zaoli, President of the Capo Verde Sailing Club, and Miler Vaccari, President of the U Luvassu Fishing Club. The City of Sanremo was also present, represented by Councilor for Productive Activities Silvana Ormea, who thanked them for their hospitality.
