Starting tomorrow, more than 50 Dragons from 15 countries will compete in the waters of our gulf for the Italian Grand Prix , one of four Grand Prix events held worldwide. Numerous world and Olympic champions will be present and will battle it out for four days.
The Dragon, designed by Johan Anker in 1929, an Olympic class from 1948 to 1972, continues to be one of the most beautiful and popular boats in the world (over 6,000 launched), and Sanremo is one of the class’s most beloved venues. Among all the famous Dragons present, we like to remember Bluebottle GBR192 , which Queen Elizabeth gave as an engagement gift to Prince Philip. Racing, but not only: friendship and moments of conviviality make the Dragon one of the most fascinating classes.
The Grade 1 event in Sanremo (an event recognized by the International Dragon Association as a high-level competition) also includes the Italian Championship: we will discover the winners on Saturday, May 18th.
And, at the end of the 4 Grand Prix, which this year are all held in Europe, the boats will leave for the world championship next November in Hong Kong.
