A difficult first day in Sanremo for the Women’s 420 Championship and the November Race: On Friday 3 November, strong winds with three meter waves forced the Race Committee to cancel today’s races early, a decision expected by the participants. There was no shortage of moments of fun: the Club organized football matches on the nearby beach. Saturday 4 November for the one hundred crews the starting time is scheduled for 9.30 am, trusting in a weather window before a further worsening of the weather conditions: in fact, three regattas were held for the girls and 2 for the boys. The Trophee Grimaldi ended with a change of program but great satisfaction for the success on the part of the organizers and participants. Difficult weather, already forecast for a few days, has led the organizing clubs to do hard work to find alternative solutions: in fact the Sanremo Yacht Club, the Monaco Yacht Club and the Cala del Forte Yacht Club have been forced to adapt to extreme weather conditions, canceling Friday’s Sanremo Cala del Forte stage due to dangerous sea and wind conditions.  As per tradition, the Trophee Grimaldi for offshore boats will start on Friday.  This beautiful coastal regatta unites three clubs in the area, highlighting the cooperation and possibilities of our territory: Yacht Club Sanremo, Yacht Club of Monaco and Yacht Club Cala del Forte offer, in fact, splendid locations for the development of sustainable boating, that is of sailing. Given the challenging weather conditions, due to the strong winds that will blow from the west, it will certainly not be an easy regatta. From 24th to 27th August a new regatta overlooks the gulf of Sanremo, i.e. the first World Championship for Wooden Dragons. These splendid boats built from 1929 onwards have gone through numerous phases, from a simple wooden construction to lamellar construction or with crossed and overlapping planking. There are six nations present ranging from Estonia to the United States, twenty magnificent boats registered, among which there are those who will participate to win and those who even just to show off their beautiful boat. All created by the Sanremo Yacht Club, one of the most active clubs in Europe and always close to this class, for which it organized the 90th anniversary with more than 150 boats.  Tuiga, Mariella, Il Moro di Venezia are some of the splendid boats that will participate in the regatta this weekend: Tuiga, owned by Albert of Monaco, a splendid boat built and designed by William Fife in 1908 and bearer of the Yacht Club of Monaco; Mariella, of the Italian Consul in Antigua, of almost thirty meters built in 1938 also in the Fife shipyards but based on a design by Alfred Mylne, a boat that lives between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, with two ocean crossings a year. After three races in difficult conditions with an east wind between 8 and 18 knots and a westerly sea, Klaus Diederichs, current world champion of the class, also triumphs in Sanremo, ahead of the German Ingo Ehrlicher and the Swede Jesper Stalheim. First of the Italians, and therefore Italian Champion, is the President of the host Club, the Yacht Club Sanremo, Beppe Zaoli. Like all spring in March in the waters of Sanremo, organized by the local Yacht Club, the Dragons return. After a non-stop month of February with over a thousand participants between Optimists, 420s and ORCs, it is the traditional time for the Paul&Shark Trophy. Thirty-four boats entered from ten different countries to try to take home this trophy and nine Italian boats that will compete for the title of Italian Champion. The level with the current European and World Champions in charge is the Swiss Wolf Waschkuhn and the German Klaus Diederichs who boasts the current world champion of the Star class, Diego Negri, on board. Marina degli Aregai, 3/5 March 2022. 05 March 2023 – An east wind of around 10 knots accompanied the start of the third and final day of racing of the first stage of the Optimist Italia Kinder Joy Of Moving Trophy, underway since last Friday at the Sanremo Yacht Club and with almost 350 young sailors from all over Italy and from Lithuania, the Principality of Monaco, the Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland.
