The 39th International Mediterranean Meeting, organized by the Sanremo Yacht Club, has ended, with almost one hundred boats, with small athletes between 9 and 14 years old who animated the port of Sanremo, coming from four different nations. Four races were held by the older ones, with a difference applied, and three races for the younger ones, all held on Saturday 9 December: the adverse conditions on Friday and the lack of wind on Sunday did not allow the regattas to take place. Perfect conditions on Saturday with a west wind that blew from 6 to 15 knots allowing all the day’s races to take place. From Friday 8th to Sunday 10th December the waters of the City of Flowers will be invaded by Optimist Class boats, with the registration of Swiss, French, Monegasque and, of course, Italian crews. The great event which has always had young people as its highly anticipated protagonists will also this year see around 100 participants divided into the two categories Cadets (born from 2013 to 2014) and Juniors (born from 2008 to 2012) who will compete for victory in their respective rankings. A further prize will be represented by the Dino Minaglia Trophy which, named in memory of a great member of the Sanremo Yacht Club who always worked for youth activities, will be awarded to the best Club among the Juniors, based on a ranking drawn up on the final results of the best three crews per partnership.  First three days of regattas for the Dragon Winter Series organized by the Yacht Club with the patronage of the City of Sanremo. Event created in 2021 by the Sanremo Yacht Club, which with a great deal of dissemination work managed to have as many as 16 Dragoons from six European nations challenge themselves in the wonderful waters of the Gulf of Sanremo this weekend. On the weekend of 18 and 19 November, numerous and high-level boats entered the second stage of the West Liguria winter championship, the AUTUMN REGATTA. Despite the little wind of 5 knots from a south-southwest direction, albeit shortened, two races were held on Saturday and Sunday. In the ORC Class clear dominance of the Melges 32 Big Bang, owned by Arturo Mazzanti, which had no opponents in the light airs, ahead in the general classification of Sarchiapone Fuoriserie which with two third places placed in second place ahead of the Swan 42 Suspiria the Revenge, with in tactics the Olympic medal of the Ukrainian Yevgen Braslavets. Record number of participants and nations for this regatta organized by the Sanremo Yacht Club: as many as 100 registered representatives of 6 nations to compete for victory. Great turnout given by the participation of many crews in the Rio de Janeiro World Championship whose boats will leave on Monday from Vado Ligure, therefore this regatta represents the last event in Italian waters. There are two fleets, that of the 420 Women’s Championship, an Italian title coveted by almost thirty crews, and the November Race dedicated to mixed and male crews. A difficult first day in Sanremo for the Women’s 420 Championship and the November Race: On Friday 3 November, strong winds with three meter waves forced the Race Committee to cancel today’s races early, a decision expected by the participants. There was no shortage of moments of fun: the Club organized football matches on the nearby beach. Saturday 4 November for the one hundred crews the starting time is scheduled for 9.30 am, trusting in a weather window before a further worsening of the weather conditions: in fact, three regattas were held for the girls and 2 for the boys. The Trophee Grimaldi ended with a change of program but great satisfaction for the success on the part of the organizers and participants. Difficult weather, already forecast for a few days, has led the organizing clubs to do hard work to find alternative solutions: in fact the Sanremo Yacht Club, the Monaco Yacht Club and the Cala del Forte Yacht Club have been forced to adapt to extreme weather conditions, canceling Friday’s Sanremo Cala del Forte stage due to dangerous sea and wind conditions.  As per tradition, the Trophee Grimaldi for offshore boats will start on Friday.  This beautiful coastal regatta unites three clubs in the area, highlighting the cooperation and possibilities of our territory: Yacht Club Sanremo, Yacht Club of Monaco and Yacht Club Cala del Forte offer, in fact, splendid locations for the development of sustainable boating, that is of sailing. Given the challenging weather conditions, due to the strong winds that will blow from the west, it will certainly not be an easy regatta.
