Nearly one hundred and fifty crews from 17 nations gathered in Marina degli Aregai for a new edition of what is one of the most important regattas in the world for the 420 class, now in its twelfth edition.
The weather conditions during these four days of racing were not always favorable to the organization, but allowed to run 7 beautiful races all with easterly winds, mild temperatures, and slightly rough seas that favored the athletes from Greece with absolute domination in both categories, both Open and Women.
In the Olympic 470 class, the Italians Vucetti/Bonifacio run an extraordinary performance: they managed to maintain a remarkable level of consistency and determination, discarding a fifth place as their worst result. Their skill and their ability to always remain in the top positions made them stand out, never falling off the podium in the other races. A truly high-level result that underlines the quality and preparation of Italian sailing!
In the 420 class, the division of the fleet into Gold and Silver after four races certainly made the competition even more interesting and strategic. The Gold fleet saw a tight fight between the best crews, with the Greeks dominating the scene: they won the first two places in the Open ranking, confirming their superiority in this class; the third step of the podium went to ITA57228 Donà/Dogliotti. Also in the women’s category, the Greek athletes occupied the highest steps of the podium. It was an absolute domination that demonstrated, once again, the strength and tradition of Hellenic sailing at an international level!
The Carnival Race has certainly left an important mark, and next year’s event is already marked on the calendar of sailing enthusiasts.
