We closed the summer season and began the autumn with the proud presence of our members and athletes on the podiums of the main Mediterranean regattas.
Let’s start with the intense adventure at the ORC European Championship in Palma de Mallorca of Sarchiapone Fuoriserie Italia Yachts 998, owned by our member Gianluigi Dubbini, who took a well-deserved third place in a top-level fleet of 35 boats in Class C, after having always placed second in three preparatory regattas – Palmavela in Palma, Trofeo Godó in Barcelona and Trofeo La Reina in Valencia.
We continue in September, in Imperia, with many athlete members who paid tribute to our club at the traditional Vele d’Epoca gathering and at the new Regate delle Isole. At the Vele d’Epoca, Gina Zaoli’s Resolute Salmon triumphed in the Classic IOR , helmed by our president Beppe Zaoli , and with member Pier Telmon ; in third place was Francesca Ferrando’s BONNIE with our young 420 sailor Giulio Berra aboard.
Our athlete Valerio Mugnano instead wins the Imperia 8 Meter International Tonnage Cup aboard the famous 1935 ARIA. It doesn’t end there: other of our athletes crewed on OLIRIA , the splendid Sangermani of Turin’s Ermanno Sciolino, wins in the Cruiser class, and third in Cruiser 2 is our member and regatta judge Fulvio Parodi on Greylag .
Rather challenging technical and weather conditions for the Porto Maurizio YC Regate delle Isole : in the 160Nm long race, in ORC, we witnessed a true match race between our members, which saw Andrea Statari ‘s Gorilla Gang XL cross the finish line first, closely followed by Alessandro Tosetti ‘s ULDB ASPRA , who returned, before the summer, from a solo round-the-world trip. On the 30Nm course, Federico Stoppani with Pingone di Mare IIII won the FREE class, while Marco Carbonaro ‘s Sangermani Sandra took second in AIVE A.
Also organized by Porto Maurizio YC, the Italian J70 Championship where our young Giorgia Taddei aboard Massimo Rama’s Jenale won third place in the Corinthian class.
Continuing on the classic boat circuit, our member Massimiliano Ferruzzi’s Moro di Venezia took third place on the podium at the Régates Royales de Cannes in the IOR Classic category, with our president Beppe Zaoli, commodore Umberto Zocca di Montelupo, and members Daniele Bonetto and Paolo Luisetti on board. In the IOR Classic, Sangermani Sandra took fifth place, and Stefania Didonè ‘s century-old Bermuda slop Fifi took third in the Epoca Marconi B class. In the Dragon class, our member Diego Negri , an icon of international sailing, took first place aboard Klaus Diederichs’ GBR 819 Fever, crewed by Martin Westerdah.
A few days later, Moro di Venezia once again won the Voiles de Saint-Tropez in the IOR category, after a hard-fought race against Argentina’s Matrero: finishing on equal points, Moro secured victory after finishing first in two races.
Sandra continued her vintage circuit at the Raduno di Viareggio , taking second place in the VSV 5 Class, winning the Admiral Florindo Cerri Trophy (awarded to the boat that crosses the first buoy first) and the Sangermani Challenge Trophy .
Moving to the Adriatic, we won the Italia Cup – Coppa Excelsior della Compagnia della Vela – Veleziana 2025 with our crew of Evegny Braslavetz at the helm, Andrea Zaoli and Davide Marella: two days of racing on SB20s reserved for the racing teams of the invited clubs, to win the historic Coppa Excelsior, returned to the Compagnia after 100 years.
And it was still in the Adriatic, in the Split Channel, that a few weeks earlier the great Diego Negri won third place overall, with bowman Sergio Lambertenghi, at the 2025 Star World Championships , behind two other legendary names in sailing – Paul Cayard with Frithjof Kleen and Mateusz Kusznierewicz with Bruno Prada.
Finally, in Desenzano del Garda , the Zone I team, led by our Tommaso Cilli at the helm, with Valerio Mugnano on the mainsail, and athletes from other Riviera clubs – Michele Casano trimmer and Filippo Calvi bowman , YC Imperia, and Matilde Garaventa tactician, YC Italiano – were awarded third place at the Italian Under 25 Championships of the Italian Sailing Federation.
But it doesn’t end there. The first week of November, in Cannes, ITA 79 Transbunker, with Evegny Braslavetz at the helm, Andrea Zaoli , and Davide Marella, won third place in the Grand Prix de l’Armistice-Dragon – Grade 1 European Grand Prix Cup.
