We share the report of the Resolute Salmon, designed by Britton Chance Jr., winner of the 1976 One Ton Cup in Marseille, which participated, racing with the CV Capo Verde and YC Sanremo burgees, in the ORC World Championship Naples-Sorrento, rigged by the Zaoli family together with the entrepreneur Alberto Franchella, our partners.

βIt was a wonderful experience, not only because we had a lot of fun but also because we achieved excellent results,β says Andrea Zaoli, at the helm of One Tonner together with entrepreneur Alberto Franchella.
” At first, I was quite skeptical about entering the ’76 One Tonner in the ORC World Championship, but we actually did very well: in the long race, an intense and highly technical race with constantly changing conditions, we finished ninth in a fleet of nearly 40 boats, a result that further enhances the crew’s performance and the speed we demonstrated on the water. Ahead of Procida, we were third in real time, then the night between Ponza and Ventotene was incredibly tough, with constant sail and trim changes and countless maneuvers, while towards Naples we sailed downwind, with constant gybes and great intensity right up to the finish.
The coastal races weren’t bad either; we always got off to a great start, and the entire crew worked with great concentration and precision. Unfortunately, the rating system and ORC rating certificate penalized us, as we were the only boat of this type in the category. Had the APH system (the one used in major regattas like the Giraglia) been adopted, our performance would have been more rewarding.

“It was a wonderful experience,” adds Alberto Franchella . “The crew always worked hard, especially considering that the decision to participate in the World Championship was made a few months ago, during the West Liguria Winter Championship organized by our Yacht Club. We were aboard Change Transparent, a very competitive Swan 45 that we were thinking of taking to Sorrento. When Resolute Salmon, with Beppe Zaoli aboard, passed us along the coast, Andrea and I looked at each other and decided to take her to the World Championship!”
We thank our crew of professionals and enthusiasts, united in the One Up Sailing Team – Patrick Costa, Sofian Bouvet, Davide Marella and Giovanni Bianco, Andrea Cattaneo, Carlo Macchi.
