In the season of the 37th America’s Cup, we signed the reciprocity agreement with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the historic club of Auckland, home of the Defenders.
On the antipodes of Sanremo, the RNZYS overlooks the famous Hauraki Gulf, in Auckland’s Westhaven Marina, where it has been organizing thousands of regattas and social events, since 1871.
The elective affinity between the two yacht clubs responds to the common mission of promoting sailing and love for the sea, especially towards young people and enthusiasts, with educational, recreational and competitive activities.
Our yacht club has over seventy years of sailing school and competitive activities to its credit, organizing events with over three thousand athletes and enthusiasts every season.
“We are excited about this new reciprocity agreement – said Umberto Zocca di Montelupo, Commodore YC Sanremo – and to collaborate with a prestigious reality such as the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, an opportunity to share experiences and encourage exchanges between members”.
The agreement provides reciprocity rights for members of both clubs, with the possibility of access to the facilities and clubhouse, services, regatta activities and social events.
The agreement will be sealed by the exchange of the respective pennants next December in New Zealand, with our honorary member Alessandro Tosetti as ambassador, who will resume his solo circumnavigation aboard S/Y Aspra from the RNZYS with the final stage Auckland-Sanremo.
Tosetti, accompanied by Raffaella Ramondetti, YC Sanremo Communication, will deliver the Italian pennant and will be honored to receive the New Zealand one that will travel with him on Aspra to Italy, to be exhibited in the library of our club.
We look forward to welcoming the members of the RNZYS!
