After the reciprocal club agreement with the prestigious Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron signed this summer, the exchange of our respective burgees took place last Friday in Auckland as an emblem of friendship and collaboration between the two realities – present Marguerite Delbet, General Committee of the Squadron, Alessandro Tosetti, honorary member of YC Sanremo, and Raffaella Ramondetti, YC Communication.
The ambassador of the initiative is Alessandro with his ASPRA sailing yacht: starting from the RNZYS on January 11 setting sails to Cape Horn, he will take the pennant to Italy, in the Auckland-Sanremo leg, completing the circumnavigation that began with the Global Solo Challenge regatta last year. The journey aboard the ULDB 65′ will be a sporting challenge and an opportunity to strengthen relations between different cultures and traditions, united by a passion for the sea and sailing.
“We are excited about the reciprocity agreement with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron – said our President Beppe Zaoli – this agreement underlines the sharing of the same values of sportsmanship, sailing teaching, and respect for the sea, and we are pleased to be able to display the Squadron pennant in our clubhouse”.
The RNZYS, custodian of the America’s Cup, has hosted the Yacht Club Sanremo recently to attend the long-awaited debut of the Sail GP 2025 in Auckland.
The Yacht Club Sanremo looks forward to welcoming Alessandro and ASPRA with the RNZYS burgee, which is scheduled to arrive next spring.
