After 22 qualifying trials of the three stages of the Coppa Italia held between March and May, the rankings of those selected to participate in the World Championship in Turkey at the beginning of July have been released. Our yacht club will be represented by three crews: DIMA KARTEL and FEDERICO ELIA, CECILIA DENOE and MARTINA GALLO U23 Female, LUDOVICA BONELLI and MATILDE RUGGERI U17 Female.
Furthermore, Dima and Federico, Ludovica and Matilde will also participate in the Junior European Championships which will be held in Portugal, in Porto, at the end of July.
The news comes a few days after the conclusion of the III Coppa Italia in Trieste, where over one hundred crews competed. Here are the hot comments of our athletes.
Dima Kartel, 19, helmsman, Marketing student at the Ukrainian University, has lived in Sanremo for three years and since November has been in the crew with Elia Federico, 15 years old from Ventimiglia, student at the scientific sports high school, debuting bowman on the 420 after a lot of competition in our Optimists Team. “ We managed to do four tests with little wind, it was difficult for both the Race Committee and for us – comments Dima – I am not very satisfied with the result in Trieste, but it is always better to make all the possible mistakes before the World Championships! ”.
“We are very happy with the qualification, even if there is still a lot of work to do – adds Elia – the regatta at Garda awaits us where we will compete with all the strongest, in medium/strong wind conditions, and, after, concentrate on our weak points to arrive at the World Championship prepared. Wind, high-level crews and a great desire to win certainly await us!”.
Cecilia Denoe, 19 years old, biology student in Geneva, helmsman in the U23 crew with Martina Gallo, bowwoman, 18 years old, fifth year of scientific training in Turin:
“These three national teams were very challenging, in all the races we encountered different conditions, both little and a lot of wind, long and tiring days. In these difficult races it was hard to maintain consistency in the tests, and we understood that we still have a lot to give and improve – adds Martina. “ We imagined the qualification since the beginning of the year, but only by arriving were we able to breathe a sigh of relief. We managed to obtain the qualification thanks to our commitment, and we can’t wait to participate in our first World Championship together to give our best!!!”
