15 March 2021420 & 470 THE CARNIVAL RACE Yacht Club Sanremo 18/21 February 2021 Concluded the “The Carnival Race” organized by the Yacht Club Sanremo Four tests for the 470s and three for the 420s at this edition of the Carnival Race where the wind dominated both for lack and excess. But the tests carried out on Saturday were splendid with winds between 14 and 18 knots, all regular departures and three beautiful regattas. In the 470 class, the Italian crew of Maria Vittoria Marchesini and Bruno Festo returned to land with 3 first places. On Sunday the strong east up to 32 knots put a strain on the crews of this class who managed to finish only one race and therefore the final victory for this mixed crew, with three firsts and a fifth. Second in the final standings, but winners of Sunday’s test fought with very strong winds, Cricchiutti / Fedel. In the 420 hard-fought regattas that saw the Spanish crew Ruiz Ponce / Mestre excel with two first places and a fifth, in second place the Italians Pousche / Coslovich on equal points. In the women’s ranking first the German Lanzinger / Stainlein. Beautiful and very exciting regattas in all classes, on Sunday the Committee after having given the start of the women’s fleet decided to bring all 420 back due to the too demanding wind conditions. Satisfaction of the organizers of the Sanremo Yacht Club who managed to get 100 boats from half of Europe in such a complicated year. A huge thanks also goes to the Municipality of Sanremo and the Marina di Portosole without whose logistical support the event could not have been held. We will see these two classes again in July for the respective World Championships also organized by the Sanremese Club.
