Paul & Shark Trophy: tough fight for the podium

Similarly to what happened on Day 2, on Day 3, a good dose of patience was needed to get the racing started at the Paul & Shark Trophy – International Dragon Cup organised by Italy’s Yacht Club Sanremo. The Race Committee and the competitors had to wait for the wind to settle but the decision was rewarded by two good, hard-contested races. The first one was sailed in a choppy sea and with a 13/15 knots strong easterly air that progressively decreased to some ten knots, the second race was shortened because of the shifty and dropping wind. No matter the conditions, the sun shone once again on Bunker Prince, the team led by Olympic 470 champion Yevgenii Braslavets and flying the colours of local Yacht Club Sanremo, scoring a double bullet that further consolidated its position at the top of the scoreboard. But behind the battle between Ivan […]

Paul & Shark Trophy: patience rewarded

Day 2 of the 13th edition of the Paul & Shark Trophy, International Dragon Cup, the event organized by Italy’s Yacht Club Sanremo started with virtually zero wind. But then, after a two-hours long postponement, the organizers’ and sailors’ patience was rewarded  with a good easterly breeze of around 12 knows that enabled the 33 teams to complete two races. Today’s fresher wind meant a closer fleet, with faster manoeuvres and much contested mark roundings. The day’s wins went to two different teams: the first race to Estonian crew of Port Artur skippered by Mihkel Kosk. “In the morning it looked very uncertain that we were going to have any racing, the weather forecast was not promising. But we managed to get in two good races in very even conditions so I’m sure that everybody is very pleased.” Declared Kosk. “We had a first and a seventh place and […]

Dragons, Paul & Shark Trophy: light wind on the opening day

A warm spring sun and an ideal air temperature have welcomed the 33 teams from 13 different countries taking part in the 13th edition of the Paul & Shark Trophy, International Dragon Cup, the event organised by Italy’s Yacht Club Sanremo and one of the key events of the season for the Dragon class. Unfortunately the wind conditions were not ideal, a light, fickle and shifty easterly wind forced the Race Committee to make the crews wait ashore, to a postponement on the water, to reduce the first race and to abandon the second race of the day as the conditions were too unstable to guarantee fair competition. The wind that never exceeded six knots only allowed to complete only one race that was won by the Ukrainian crew on Bunker Prince ITA 77 led by helmsman Yevgeni Braslavets, gold medallist in the 470 class at 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, […]
